A native daughter of the genre-bending West Coast music scene, Caroline McCaskey is equally at home in the regional traditional, improvising and classical music worlds. Author of the AltStrings Fiddle Method, she holds degrees in music composition and performance, as well as Suzuki teaching certification in violin and cello. Caroline is the 2019 U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion and a two-time International Musical Saw Champion. She also runs AltStringsAcademy.com, a learning community for amateur adult string players who are ready to build their technique, style, and musicianship skills.
Patti finds her musical home somewhere between folk, rock, and blues improvisation. Her playing is alternately driving, soulful, reflective, and humorous, and her original tunes inspire dancers to move. She plays Scottish, English and contra dances with Tartan Suite and has also played with StringFire!, the Odd Sundays English Garage Band, and the Humuhumunukunukuapua‘a & Strathspey Society Band. She has performed with other stellar traditional music fiddlers, including Alasdair Fraser, Keith Smith, Chris Duncan, Shira Kammen, John Taylor, Rodney Miller, and Audrey Jaber. When not playing for dancing, Patti’s out slumming in rock ‘n’ roll bands.
What do you get when you cross a geologist with a cellist? A gneiss sound! Thomas Dewey grew up playing classical cello, but always possessed an insatiable appetite for Celtic fiddle tunes. It wasn’t until college that Thomas discovered he could play both! When not at his day job as a geologist, Thomas continues to expand his musical horizons and is excited about discovering new ways to infuse the band with epic cello!
